"First team to 100 wins" is a oft-said saying in basketball. Is there any truth to it statistically?

It is a fairly good rule of thumb. In a lot of games, the score does not get to 100 points, usually it stays in the 90's. So, if a team does get there, and gets there for first, its usually towards the very end of the 4th quarter. Of course, the exception is usually the Phoenix Suns, who can score 100 points at will, but can also give up over 100 points because they don't play defense.

I watch the NBA all of the time and I am yet to hear that saying. It is usually, "first team to 50"
